Origin: Naturally derived from sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) — hence the name betaine.

It’s a zwitterionic molecule — meaning it carries both positive and negative charges — which makes it an osmolyte and humectant with excellent water-binding and compatibility properties.

1. Humectant :Attracts and retains moisture in skin and hair; helps maintain hydration.
2. Osmoregulator Protects cells from dehydration and osmotic stress (especially under heat or UV exposure).

Formulation Tips

Add to water phase (before emulsification) or cool-down phase (below 45 °C) if sensitive actives are present.

Combine with panthenol, glycerin, sodium PCA, or aloe vera extract for stronger hydration synergy.

In shampoos, pair with Cocamidopropyl Betaine or mild anionics for balanced cleansing and conditioning.
