BTMS‑50
Price range: KSh 1,600.00 through KSh 3,200.00
Key features & benefits
- Conditioning / detangling effect: Because it is cationic (positively charged), it can adsorb to negatively charged hair fibres, reducing friction, improving comb-through, and leaving hair feeling smoother.
- Emulsifying & thickening function: It acts both as an emulsifier (combining oil & water-phases) and contributes to viscosity or body of the formulation.
- Mild & “luxurious” feel: BTMS-50 gives cream emulsions a silky skin-feel and hair conditioners a premium feel.
- Suitable for hair-care applications: In hair conditioners/masks, especially for detangling and smoothing.
Description
Typical usage rate and formulation guide:
- Usage levels: Often used in the range of ~1-4% for leave-in or rinse-off conditioners.
- Melting & process: It has a melting point in the region of about 60 °C.
- It should generally be melted in the oil phase of an emulsion.
- Function in formulations: For hair care — as the primary emulsifier & conditioning base in a conditioner, mask or leave-in product.
• For skin care — as conditioning/emulsifying wax in lotions or body creams where you want a smooth, elegant feel.
Typical formulation examples
- For a simple rinse-off hair conditioner: use 3-6% BTMS-50 in formula, melt in oil phase, combine oil + water phases, cool with stirring.
- For a leave-in, use somewhat lower amounts (2-6%) because you want lightweight feel rather than thick cream.
- For a body lotion: use perhaps 4-8%, depending on oil content and target feel, to get the conditioning plus emulsification.
Incompatibilities
BTMS 50 doesn’t play nicely with some anionic surfactants and gums such as xanthan gum.
