Mechanism of Action

Papain works by cleaving peptide bonds in the keratin proteins that make up the stratum corneum (outer skin layer). This loosens dead cells and promotes their removal — producing a gentler alternative to AHAs or BHAs.

Safety & Stability

Generally considered safe and non-toxic, but can cause irritation on sensitive skin or at high levels.
