How to Formulate with Dead Sea Clay

  1. Add in the Cool-Down Phase
Dead Sea mud is heat-sensitive and can lose minerals.
    Add below 45°C.

  2. High Salts Create Emulsion Challenges
Because it contains natural salts, it can break emulsions or cause separation.
    To avoid issues:
Use high-tolerance emulsifiers such as Emulsifying Wax NF, Olivem 1000, or BTMS
    Add mud slowly while mixing
Avoid adding too much mud in formulas with high oil content

  3. Requires a Preservative
Dead Sea mud contains water, so always add a broad-spectrum preservative such as:
    Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin
    Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate
    Optiphen
    Liquid Germal Plus
Use at 0.8–1.2% depending on the system.

  4. Adjust pH
Target pH for most face masks: 5.0–6.0
